Been detecting on this old farm, haven't found much but old horseshoes, farm parts, etc. Finally found a pile of dirt with square nails in it at the bottom of a hill, perhaps and old building that had been dozed or dirt pushed down. In the pile i found this old button, at first i thought it was just a flat old button but after looking at it a while it looks homemade? Its close to the size of a small penny and is 19.75mm in diameter. Any ideas, how to i clean it, soak it in olive oil? Curious if it is an old coin. Definitely looks like a button to me I don't think you really have anything to lose with an olive oil soak so I'd say go for it cool find

Shoot...if I had to guess, I'd say that's a coin... I agree with Joe Dirt...give it a soak, and see what you can see...

I don't think its either.

Interesting find. :occasion14:

Got er soaking, closest old coin diameter I can find is a shield nickel, of that's what it is it may be too worn to ever tell. Thanks everyone.
