Looks like someone shot that penny. I wasn't there, but probably a couple of kids were playing with 22's, and one bet the other he couldn't hit a penny flipped up in the air. He apparently lost the bet. For sure the penny was a 1909 s-vbd, no common penny would ever get shot up that bad.

It was at a school, so you're probably close. :) I hate to think kids were shooting coins at school in the 40s though.
