We frequent our local free shed at our transfer station every week. Today was no exception and the visit paid off! An older gentleman had just dropped off a box full of vintage newspapers and such. I was pretty much right behind him and saw the one on the top. 1945 NY Times " the war is over". I didn't even go through them. Just grabbed the box and gleefully placed it in my car. I was amazed by what I found in the box after going through it. I think the best find is the framed picture of James Russell Lowell with a cut out of an actual signature of his. Dated '70 for 1870. I've done a bit of research and am pretty positive it's the real deal. It looks like it was cut out from a letter or something similar. Still not quite sure the value but a very cool find. And of course all of the news papers too. All original and not copies. The Hindenburg is a cool one too! A couple of local papers as well about two floods from the past.

It's hit or miss at times at our " take it, leave it shed " but over the past 10 or so years, we've done really well! My coin silver collection and passion all started at the dump a few years ago after finding 8-10 pieces in an old biscuit tin.

I don't believe our transfer station has a free table, but I don't visit enough to know for sure. Now you have motivated me to round up some crap from the garage and drive over there to dump it just to see if they set up a free shed. :laughing7:

They turned our "free shed" over to Goodwill. Partly because there were people that would just camp out there all day taking anything of value to resell.

That is really REALLY good. Coming across a box of stuff like that, could be, no, IS a daydream of mine.

I just did a bit more research on the "save" food poster. I originally thought it was WW ll but found that it is a WW l poster circa 1917. I know it's been folded and is a tad bit fragile, it's still and original and a pretty cool find.

That sucks, both for the patrons of the free table - and the choice they went with. :BangHead:
