FRIDAY THE 13TH WAS A DAY I'LL NEVER FORGET!!!

EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A LITTLE ON THE COLD SIDE (BESIDES, RELIC HUNTERS DON'T LET THE COLD BOTHER THEM , DO THEY?) AND THE WIND WAS BLOWING LIKE CRAZY I HAD PLANNED TO SPEND THE DAY DETECTING SO THAT'S JUST WHAT I DID. ONCE AGAIN I WENT BACK TO A HOMESITE i'VE BEEN DETECTING FOR A WHILE WHERE I'VE FOUND RELICS FROM THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR ALL THE WAY UP TO THE 1900'S. I AM STILL LOOKING FOR THE WREATH TO A LITTLE TONGUE I FOUND WITH A 8 POINTED STAR ON IT. WELL, THIS PLACE HAS IRON EVERYWHERE SO I SPENT A GOOD PART OF THE MORNING DIGGING OUT AS MUCH OF THE LARGER IRON ITEMS AS I COULD. THIS WAS SOMETHING I HAD NEVER DONE BEFORE BUT THE RESULTS WERE WORTH THE EFFORT. LAST WEEK I DUG A COAT FRENCH 64TH BUTTON OUT OF THIS SITE ALONG WITH A 1773 HALFPENNY. WELL TODAY I FOUND ANOTHER 1773 HALFPENNY AND 5 MORE REVOLUTIONARY WAR BUTTONS! 4 OF THEM HAVE THE BIRDCAGE OR TURRET SHANK AND THE OTHER APPEARS TO HAVE A STANDARD LOOP. MY RECORD FOR FRENCH BUTTONS IN A SINGLE DAY WAS 2. TODAY I DOUBLED THAT!!! ALSO FOUND A BROKEN TRIGGERGARD, BROKEN SHOEBUCKLE, AN OVAL BRASS ITEM, AND 10 MUSKETBALLS. I'M GOING TO CAREFULLY TOOTHPICK THE BUTTONS TOMORROW SO I'LL POST THEM ONCE THEY'RE CLEANED. I COULDN'T BE MORE HAPPY!!! HH DEVONREX

Quite a day! :headbang: I'm curious to see if they're all from the same unit, and what the regular loop shank one is. (if it's not just a broken, 1/2 turret shank)

Re: FRIDAY THE 13TH WAS A DAY I'LL NEVER FORGET!!!

The oval iron item is a striker for a flint and steel fire starting kit. Kind of rare to find them. Do some preserving on it. It's a good artifact.

That is if it is iron. If it is brass then that's another story.

Re: FRIDAY THE 13TH WAS A DAY I'LL NEVER FORGET!!!

this chart may help

http://www.xenophongroup.com/mcjoynt/regts.htm

your 13th fought in Yorktown
no record of a 64th - some british buttons were designed similar to the french - difference is the backs

if you wanted to make a nice display with your 13th reg buttons
here are the regiments colors - you could have someone sew a small flag to put behind them in a ryker case

Re: FRIDAY THE 13TH WAS A DAY I'LL NEVER FORGET!!!

found the 64th for the French around Yorktown
was an artillery unit supposedly
not listed much - hard to find
most research only mentions the British 64th of foot
I dont think there were many or they were combined with another unit
could be a rare one
