Hunted my favorite picnic woods today. Pretty frozen ground in spots. In some spots the ground just had a frozen crust. Other spots were frozen down to 5 inches or more. Had to give up on one promising signal that was just too deep. However, I was able to recover some nice stuff with my trusty, heavy-duty digger. A couple of coins were in frozen clumps of sod. So, I put the whole clumps in my pouch to check at home.

The first clump appeared to have a silver dime in it:

It was a Mercury dime: fordroad 005.JPG

The next clump appeared to have a penny in it:

It was an 1892 Indian Head Penny:

Nice finds for the middle of winter. I found the same to be true. Some spots are soft and other spots are hard to dig ::)
