Got in the 40's here today. Hurried and got the job I was working on done and headed out at 1:00 pm to try My luck. Boy was I in for a surprise! I had to stab the ground over and over to break through the first 3" of frozen solid ground and then finish digging in solid ground like the hard pan for the next 2" to get to a clad Dime. Did this for a little while and decided to hang it up until the ground thaws. Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting for those of Us who can.

Head for the woods!

EXACTLY! We had a high of 10 degrees today, so I'd take 40 degrees! I have a few patches of woods to hit when it's this cold, so take RobR's advice and find some woods to root around in...you might be surprised. The last chunk of woods I scoped out had history, I just didn't know where...then I spotted the daffodils. Knowing these were planted at one time and bloom every spring, I hit that area hard. Found some awesome relics and a 1919 Merc...Good luck! Ddf

I'd take some 40's weather here buddy. I reckon all my fields and sod are frozen solid after our single digit and teens weather for the last two weeks. I have a few wooded spots I can root around in if it gets up to around freezing this weekend. Glad you gave it a good try and you did score some change.:icon_thumright:

I give you a lot of credit for getting out there RJ. Looking out my window this morning, I see 15 inches of new snow and a thermometer that currently reads 5 degrees. Its going to be a looooong winter.

I use to do that. Now I just detect in the woods, and wait for Spring.
