Re: Gem Mining Treasures

Where'd ya go ?
I scored a 200ct Amythyst last spring. I had it cut into a 20ct flawless pear pendant set in white gold. :) Love it. The photo of it was on The travel channel show's site, Best Places to find cash and treasures.

I am jealous. Those things rock....pardon the pun.
Seriously though, that is one place I REALLY want to visit.

Re: Gem Mining Treasures

Was up in Spruce Pine, NC. Lots of fun.
Here are a few more. The ones I am holding are natural emeralds. Nice chunks :D
The dark reddish black ones are rubies. And the purple are Amythysts. There are some smokey and pink quartz in there. The little black ones are lovingly called Apache Tears also called black diamonds.

Those are great stones. I got a bucket of rocks from a place called "Gem Mountain" as a gift. Nothing in it quite so good looking, though.

I bought a rock tumbler to clean my coin finds & tumbled a few of of the stones. They came out nice, but probably some would have looked better cut. Thought about getting a cheap cutter, but that would lead to another time consuming hobby, and MD'ing is taking all my available time right now!

I do like the looks of those stones!

Very nice stones, Debbz!

I hope to buy a faceting machine soon...

You won't put those in a tumbler, will you?

Thanks for the reply!
Not gonna tumble them. Just gonna clean them good with sea salt and water. One of the ladies that I work with said she'd love to have a necklace with a natural emerald so since I make wire wrapped pendants for an online shop called Rainspyn, I thought I make her one as a gift.
Like I did this one:

Thanks Doug.
Yeah, the stones are pretty cool, I can't complain. But if I could have MDed that *Plantation House that u saw the pics of...omg...I would probably still be there. But there was no way to get permission since it is now listed as historic and registered and all that good stuff.
If you think of that place that people pan for gold, let me know. I'd love to try that. I need to find a big old chunk so I can pay for new tires on the car. ;D
See ya at work.
