The more I look at this and research, I am guessing geofact but wanted to put it out there to see if someone knew otherwise. I found this in New Jersey sometime ago. I recently came across it again in my collection and was looking around to see if I could find something similar. The stone is about 4 inches long and .75 inches at the thickest part. Thanks for looking...

I have 2 pieces like this, but are flaked. Rather crude large long flakes reduced. I started to post this same question last night, but I try to spread my possible geo pieces out. Save my self some embarrassment. I'll post them in a bit. If they are natural, mother nature mass produced them. Mine show rough spots on the ends. I have thought possible pecking tool. Still not one recognized by collectors. My opinion!!

I have found another, but may have thrown it out.

Welcome to t-net d-budd. I am guessing natural even though it seem symmetrical. Is the stone soft or hard?

guys, thanks for your response and for taking the time to give this a gander.

nc, yours are a bit different from mine, but to me actually look more like tools than mine.

tnmountains, it is a harder rock. I think you are probably right that it is natural. It is quite symmetrical. And when I hold it in my hand and place my thumb at the top of the wider side, it is almost like it is made to be there. But from what I have read it seems like flaking is important when trying to identify tools. The more I look at it though it just seems like it probably cracked off a larger rounded rock and then was weathered along its edges to give it the final shape.

i say natural and i'll tell you why...

1. look how smooth the founded outside "skin" is and compare it to the rougher, but yet smooth, two flat sides. to me that yells natural water erosion.
2. I see no use wear of any kind.
3. I see no use for it as a tool and have never seen one identified as a tool.

having said that, there is no way I would have passed it up...my motto is pick it up and look at it later.

I like that Unc! We collect the same way I think. Take it home wash it, got to find something eventually. Farmers love me. I clean their field for free.

straight up.....don't know how many times got something home and said... "dam!"
