This is my best find so far and one I might have trouble beating

I found it recently at my Abbey site, but it's been away being researched for a while so I couldn't post!

It was just sitting on the top in a clump of mud and gave a signal I would have ignored as iron if I hadn't seen it :o

At first I thought it was just a modern wedding band with an inscription, but after looking at the style of writing and the
spelling I wanted to give Crusader a call before I scrapped it

He told me it definately needed looking at as it could be very early

Research shows it is a 23 or 24 carat gold Poesy ring weighing 9.6 grammes, made between 1710 and 1750

Inscription reads: God hath made thee my choyce, in him and thee i doe rejoyce.

I did that once. Got a beep, looked down and there's a barber dime. :o Sure wish it had been a gold posy ring. :-\

That's an awesome ring Shaun. I'd love to see the pic of Crusader drooling over that one. :D

Congrats on making banner. :icon_sunny:

I've drooled over my own posy ring (1580s-1620) ;D

Thats the sort of age I thought his was when he rang me thinking he had a modern ring :laughing7: I was more excited than he was & I was at the wrong end of the phone :D

That is a real beauty of a ring!

I know you use a Tesoro, so you can't give an ID, but my guess would be that a nearly pure gold ring would be far into the negative numbers. Would you describe it as a square nail type of signal?

Actually, I think this was the power of the XP. :)

Congratulations on that exceptional find!!! And also on making the banner! The ring is awesome, especially with it being dated as old as it is.

I told you in one of your early posts about this land that this abbey will produce some gold for you. Glad I was finally right about something once. They sure spelled funny in them olde days.

So, the XP Power registers gold as iron, does it? I have a funny feeling you 'll be digging a lot more iron in the future.

Great find, and Congrats on the 2nd Banner.

WOW!!! That style of writing is 1700's or older.
HOW on earth do you think that this ring got on top of the mud like that? Shouldn't it have been a good 6 inches deep?
