This is my best find so far and one I might have trouble beating

I found it recently at my Abbey site, but it's been away being researched for a while so I couldn't post!

It was just sitting on the top in a clump of mud and gave a signal I would have ignored as iron if I hadn't seen it :o

At first I thought it was just a modern wedding band with an inscription, but after looking at the style of writing and the
spelling I wanted to give Crusader a call before I scrapped it

He told me it definately needed looking at as it could be very early

Research shows it is a 23 or 24 carat gold Poesy ring weighing 9.6 grammes, made between 1710 and 1750

Inscription reads: God hath made thee my choyce, in him and thee i doe rejoyce.

WOW!!! That style of writing is 1700's or older.
HOW on earth do you think that this ring got on top of the mud like that? Shouldn't it have been a good 6 inches deep?

joys of ploughed fields, we rarely do grass over here, unless its been previously plough.

Same here, and have a hard time tying to remember the last nondisturbed ground I hunted.

That is a real beauty of a ring!

I know you use a Tesoro, so you can't give an ID, but my guess would be that a nearly pure gold ring would be far into the negative numbers. Would you describe it as a square nail type of signal?

Hello Neil, it was found with the XP! With the settings I have, items on the top sound very loud! Just like a deep horse shoe (not the
same but similar)!

Thanks everyone for the replies! I'm glad you like it ;D

That is one of those Antique Roadshow finds for sure! I remember seeing one on that show that some guy dug up and it became an instant dream of mine to find one. Impossible out here unless it was passed down from generation to generation. Your posey is in beautiful condition and the engraving shows it's age. My best ring that my wife wears as her wedding band, I found at an old site and couldn't believe it had a George III hallmark and it fit her like it was meant for her. Your ring is out of this world! I think it was meant to be worn on my finger. Can I have it? ;D
One of the nicest things posted here. Congratulations. :notworthy:
Dave.

Looks like your ring is a more rare version. Wiki says posie rings are more common with the inscription on the outside.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posie_ring

Those were the earlier Medieval types, the later ones which were produced in greater numbers were on the inside.
