Went back yesterday to the new site that gave up a French Rev War button, 3 cent piece, and a bunch of early buttons last time there. But it took me a full 30 min to find the first keeper, and it happened to be another 3 center. Not only is finding 2 of these at one site quite unusual, but these have been pretty much the only CW era finds as everything else is late colonial or earlier. I was a little disappointed with the quantity of finds as I thought this place would be loaded after the last hunt. There's nothing wrong with digging 12-15 buttons, but it took me 7 hours to find them. One of them was huge as you can see compared to the 3 cent piece. I also dug another one of those brass rings that says "18K" on the inside of the band. I'm sure they were gold plated when new, but can't believe they could pass these off as 18kt. I also found at least 3 shallow fire pits with brick and charcoal, but only one produced any pottery as the result of digging test holes. I may go back and dig them out once the weather cools and if I can get back in there before the farmer plants.

Virginia is still giving up the Colonial buttons! Alright! I hope you can get in one more productive hunt before the plant happens. You have been making some great early finds this year, Bill. Thank you for sharing.

Silver, buttons (is that a ball button in there?) and you found fire pits to dig next time....looks like a successful hunt to me!

Joey - yes, that's a small ball button but its a little different than what I usually find. It's a bit oblong in shape, and has traces of silver gilting. I wasn't too keen on digging out those firepits after a couple of test holes, but guess I probably should do that just to make sure I'm not missing anything. Hopefully I can give that a shot next week if I can still get back into the site.

That is a nice one Bill. Many times they come out worn nearly smooth however that is a nice example; congrats.
