This is a new discovery piece. The latest edition of Bill Bone's book US DOG LICENSE TAGS has 1934 as the oldest known tag from Montrose CO.

I will forward him the image of your tag so he can update this info for the future editions of his book!

wow, nice find, any pre 1920 self identified tag is tough to find! Weird shape....looks like a "bow tie" thingie.

Here is a Dog tax token and a Dog hunting license tag that I found today. The tax tag is for Benton AR.

I looked up Van Wert Ohio ~ their oldest known tag is 1918! OK man. . . . now get out there and dig one earlier than 1918! LOL

Your 1965 Benton AR tag is a new discovery! Bill Bone's book US DOG LICENSE TAGS has listed 1968 as the oldest known tag from that town/city. I will forward a picture of your 1965 dog tag to Mr. Bone ~ then he will update this info for the future printing of his book!

got this lil beauty at a old sawmill town site thast was only around for about 5 years between 1913 to 1918 in western Maryland .

Hello oddcoins. OK. I'll bite, pun intended. I have dug a dozen or so dog tags but the one below is my eldest. This pooch must have been around for a couple of years anyway because it has later date counterstamp on the backside.

My boy has a couple older tags.

This one was easy to read,Washington Co. Maryland 1956.

This next one a little corroded, looks like Frederick Co. Maryland 1932.
