Gradpa's Wheaties...(this took a long time!!!) Take a look!

Well,
My Grandpa passed away in 89, when I was a youngin (still miss him). A few months ago, my Grandma decided it was time to move to Florida. That's when I learned that my Grandpa was a numismatist. She showed me part of his collection (I didn't know NEARLY as much as I do now) and I was shocked to see a beat up, 1937-D three leg buffalo nickel! and a whole lot more! She is a little long in the tooth and she didn't want to carry it all to Florida, so she decided to give me the wheaties (well, most of them, not the ones in the "special bag"). I only got out for an hour today before the weather got bad, so I decided to go through them finally (just moved myself). I decided to share them with you fine people, so...here they are!
Here is the totals and the pics...
Only did the 205 wheaties between the teens and the 40's. This is what was given to me...

My Grandpa passed away in 1989 as well and I remember when I was a kid in the 60's he would let me look at and play with his cigar box full of silver coins and buffalos. After he passed I was never able to find out the whereabouts of that box. My Grandfather was a great guy may he rest in peace.

I believe you can exchange the 3 legged buffalo for lots of green money, if that be your wish...

Congrats

That's a great collection! So glad it was passed down to you. Now you can keep his collection going by adding your finds to it! WTG!

Very nice, I'm pretty sure there's a box like that in my grandfather's things as well. I just haven't gotten back to Illinios to look.

Thanks for all of your comments,
I hadn't thought of THAT Moonshadow! I was thinking keep it separate, but you're right, I should keep it going.

Those are awesome.

I think I am going to try and find a 43 steel since I don't have one. Seeing your made me look through my collection. I have a lot of wheats but no 43 steels.

Would have been nice to see the special bag..

Very nice collection Tom. Sure they mean a great deal to you over any value. Grandparants are a lost need for so many youth today. I have my Grandson 10years of age that I raise by myself. He is my life and I'm his. Been with me for nine years.Hope you find some key dates in the bunch.

SoreKneesDaytona: Impressive Flyer but are they worth anything?
Some of the older ones are worth upwards of 15 cents or so, but all of them are worth at least 3 cents (except the steels). ;)
Dan W. WA: Don't forget to check those steel cents with a magnet you may have a rare bronze.
Never heard of that, but I most certainly will! Thanks for the tip!
Mrs. oroblanco: Really cool - sometimes you never know about those parents and grandparents - they'll surprise you!
Mine always do, they are awesome people.
K-Man: They certainly are priceless! Hit it right on the head.

Dirtfishing: Looks like it's time to get a Whitman's Albumn!
Or a couple albums...lol
MichiganRob: Mine used to give me silver dollars randomly when I visited, I think I will have to hold on to it, even a three legged (if I get it).

MUD (S.W.A.T.): That horde of wheat's is a great way to remember someone.
YES IT IS!
Moonshadow: Now you can keep his collection going by adding your finds to it!
I am still undecided, I think I will keep it separate but together (if you know what I mean) but I think that is an awesome idea!
Ken from Atl: Go look before it's another "I should have" story. Good luck!

coinman66: So what do you think is in the Special Bag?
I can only imagine. I didn't know as much as I do now (even though it was only Novemberish, funny what getting a metal detector will do to increase your knowledge of coins...lol) but most of them were marked and in those coin holder thingys. Who knows!

mastereagle22: I have a lot of wheats but no 43 steels.
I only have about 10. Those from my grandpa, and a few I found as a kid. I like them because they are so peculiar.
Monty: except some nice memories!
I have a lot of those memories, I miss the ol' guy!
{Sintinel}: Thas ALOT of WHEAT!!
I'm baking a loaf of bread...lol lame joke, i know...
JARMAN: Hope you find some key dates in the bunch.
I'm looking!

Thanks for lookin'!

~Tom
