Greetings!

The sun came out today and the snow has been melting, so I ran out for a few hours and headed back to the "Spoon Graveyard."

My last two trips there haven't been as productive (last hunt's highlights were another nice crotal bell and a pair of ornate old sugar tongs); now that I've pounded it a bunch of times I'm going to have to really slow down and grid it out from this point forward. However, today I did manage to snag this neat old badge or token -- it seems silver plated, and is for the "Crescent Club" of Brooklyn, NY. I did some research and found it was an athletic club that operated in Brooklyn from the late 1800s through the 1950s. If anyone can give me a clearer dating (and any insight as to the ram design) please let me know. It's about the size of a half-dollar. Pretty cool little find.

Enjoy!

Cheers and HH,
Brendan

Thanks, Nebstater, Moonshadow, MasterEagle and Bookfisher (how are you, Bill?). I got lucky again because this find saved the day. This spot hasn't skunked me yet, and I wanted to keep the streak alive! 8)

Very Very Cool find you might try the news paper archives for more info on the club, the design might stand for a level in the club as to where you can go, the service you can get ect.

Be sure to let us know what you find out!

Man, that's a nice piece! I'm thinking that it's actually a watch fob, with the top broken off. I have found several fobs in the exact same shape, and all but one have the top attachment missing. Beautiful!

Very interesting... Are the ones you find generally that large? (Half-dollar?) I don't think I've ever found a watch fob before, so I have no point of reference...

Thanks!

Sweet find B. Very interesting piece.
To answer your question, yes FOB's can be that big. I've found two that size in the last year. Not saying it is a FOB, just saying they can be that large.
Very cool.
