Grandfather's name on badge What is this?

Found my grandfather's name on a badge of some sort dug in a field by the old homesite. My grandfather died 25 years ago at the age of 100! On the front is J.A.Duncan (my grandfather), Boston, Georgia. On the back I cannot figure out what it is. A four letter word in blue with 'wings' near it. What is this?

I'm not finding a Alfred Earl Duncan. The only Alfred I see is your grandfather's middle name.

Stand by - I forgot he was the relation born in Scotland in 1803.

Here's the 1880 Census for Alfred when he was 77 years old. Tomorrow, when I have more time, I will see what else I can find.

I'm assuming the second household with the same last name are relations.

This is the 1820 Sampson County, North Carolina census for Dugal Duncan, who was born in Scotland in 1760. He was 60 years old in 1820. The record is rather generic and the counts indicate the age range of the family members, which total six people in the household, but it does not give their individual names.

Haven't been on here in a while but stumbled upon this thread while doing a Google search for more information on my great-great-great-great grandfather, Dugal Duncan. Apparently we share a common ancestor, wayfas4u! I am the granddaughter of Virginia Snedeker nee Kemp, who was the daughter of Harriet (Hattie) Estelle Kemp nee Duncan, who was the daughter of Isaiah Franklin Duncan, who was the son of Alfred Earl Duncan, who was the son of Dugal Duncan. I've developed a severe ancestry.com addiction and am hungry for info on my ancestors, hence the Google search for Dugal, who I've been having trouble finding any info on. Anyway, cheers, relative!
