I am assembling a list of US Army Great Seal button backmarks 1902-present.. This seems to be the most complete list available anywhere. With the help of TN members, I am occasionally adding and improving upon it. So far I have over 100 different backmarks. Anyone with a Great Seal button backmark or backmark variation not listed please post the pic and Ill add it. :icon_thumright: The thread is already so long its not necessary to add anything already pictured. Thanks.

This is how it all started:

I bought 2 bags of small Great Seal of US buttons for a buck at a flea market. Can someone help me date these backmarks? I believe they are all post 1902. I cant find anything else online.

1- Top row SCOVILL MF'G CO WATERBURY (back ungilted)
2- SCOVILL MF'G CO WATERBURY
3- Bottom CITY BUTTON WORKS - N.Y.
4- WATERBURY BUTTON CO.

The backmark is HOCHFEINE A QUALITAT . 28M. .
They appear to be rare pre-WWI US Army buttons made in Germany. I cant find another example online and its not listed. Do you have this backmark rockermike? Sorry about the poor lighting in the pics as the sun is going down.

Hey BCH, I thought you might get a kick out of these buttons. A friend of ours gave our Yorkie a sweater and it has two buttons on it that, at first glance, resemble a Great Seal one.

Hey Guys...
I need help... Please. I found this GS button in December 2015 and I can't seem to find another with this "British Made" backmark anywhere... I've scanned through the 23 previous pages to no avail. The closest backmark is the "Made in England" one.

Here it is:
Thanks Gerry 20151224_201953-1.jpg 20151224_200520-1.jpg :dontknow:

Small great seal button

Here's a new one I just found. I don't see it on the list exactly. I see the name of the maker.....D Evans & Co..... on other buttons, but, no town or city on the back of mine, just "Superfine" stamped underneath. 15mm with an "I" in the shield. Infantry? I would like to know the year(s) made if possible, and it's use. Found at an old home site.
