That's it I'm flying out to find some hammered coins. I actually feel VERY fortunate to have dug one in the states. Great stuff Rob

Very nice hammered silver, I wish America had as much metallic history as Europe.

Coinman123,

Wish my sites were loaded with buckles and hammered coins! Of course the coins are great but I really like them old buckles. What's the weight on those coins?

Paper thin Greylock, don't even register on the kitchen scales.

That's what I thought. They looked really thin so I was curious about that. Pretty cool those were carried around that long ago. Probably a pretty day when whoever had them found out they lost them.

For a peasant to lose a penny, would have been bad news, a day's wage gone :sadsmiley:

Just hard for me to wrap my head around, the age of your coins, that is. Amazing finds!

I'd be stocked to dig 4 hammered in a day, along with some nice relics.

Robert - I'm really impressed with your mini-hot streak, but I was blown away when I saw your banner find. I didn't realize you had recovered a hammered gold a few years back. That has been at the very top of my list for a very long time, but the odds of digging one here in the states is much less than minuscule. But we can all dream, right .....

Damn Rob after seeing Bills post I went and looked at your gold coin....INCREDIBLE my friend. I have to ask, how did it turn out and do you have any pics after it was straightened?

Hello Ahab, yes it straightened fine. Should have some pictures on a disc. Will try to post over the weekend.
Happy Hunting.
Robert.

Cheers Bill, yes miniscule, but maybe not impossible.

I was hoping one would show up at the site where I found the 2 scattered caches of hammered silver coins (26 in all), especially since some half crowns were showing up. But it was not to be.

Lincoln mint is pretty good, I'm sure thats a hole in my album. Good result I think.
