Having fun with this 2-More Items I Need help with... No Idea...

I have no idea what these two items are... They were found near a mining claim so I was thinking something mining related... The longer cylinder looking piece is roughly 6 inches long. The small rusted piece is roughly 3x3 inches... There seems to be a few letters on the front of the rusted piece as well...

Honestly I looked at it under several magnify glasses its either corrosion or just impurities I assume from when it was cased.
