Hi everyone.We finally got some rain last night.{about an 1inch} So about lunch time today i went for a walk along the flood-way in the Iron-bark Gully.The flood-way has a fair angle of fall, so the water runs away pretty quick.Lots of flies and bugs around and quite humid too.Just found a few relics and one coin[unknown].The tiny jug and the cast iron one pound weight was some thing different.The medicine bottle has "CHAMBERLAIN CLOIC CHOLERA DIARRHOEA REMEDY {U.S.A}

That is a cool little jug,I was looking at it in the first pic thiking it looked like a jug then you are holding it in the next pic,is it sterling? wonder what it was for? really neat little bottle to,you always come up with intersting finds...HH

What is that round item with the knobs on both ends in the upper left? My friend dug a couple up and we don't have any idea what they are.

that little jug is pretty cool. it looks like it might have come from a childs playset or dollhouse or something. nice medicine bottle too. nice finds!

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies.P Gill thanks for the interest in my posts and i too have noticed your interesting questions in my blacksmith post and school post and this post.The victorian [state] gold mining era was from 1851 to 1930.The local population in 1851 went from a few hundred to 50,000 in less than 2 years.These people came from 26 known countries.After the first 3 alluvial gold rushes, a large town developed with all the infrastructure required to support a large population.As the deep saddle quartz gold mining started in 1870 the town to spent large amounts of money on industrial infrastruture.The town had gas works,foundries which took over from blacksmiths,The town had tram system in place by 1900 and the railsystem was built in 1874.By 1881 the town boosted the deepest and richest gold mines in the world at that time.Over 200 hotels and theres over 3000 known mine shafts in 14 square miles.The town of Bendigo is a small part of the central Victorian gold fields which covers 600 square miles.over 35 million oz's of gold was recovered in this on place.This should answer a few of interesting questions.All recorded historical fact and heres a few pic of the bottles which i have found with 20 miles of my house this year.Funny all the bottles date from the era of 1851 to 1930.there american, english, chinese and early australian.The fact of the matter is i don,t only m.d, i look for very way i came think of to find my relics.At times i dig by hand, holes in the ground to about 4 feet.I,m lucky to have access to great historical records and maps of the area.Here a few pic of the bottles found..
All my finds are based on historical fact and have only found  about 8 items out side that time frame or found any great treasure.

Tin, that's a very nice assortment of finds!! I'ts always nice to live in an area where you don't have to travel too far to make some interesting recoveries. Thanks for sharing and the history lesson. 8)
Considering the time frame, I wouldn't be suprised to find the coin is a pre-decimal, possibly a half-cent.

What is that round item with the knobs on both ends in the upper left? My friend dug a couple up and we don't have any idea what they are.

lumbercamp, if I'm not mistaken, the item in question is a knife rest. Instead of laying the knife across the top of the dinner plate, you lay it so the blade doesn't touch the tablecloth.

Thanks for the great response.... you once said we have a lot in common? well reading you history lesson has bought on another one. You said the gold mines were the deepest in the world? well my area now has the deepest, and is now going even deeper Is there not a way that old bottles can be cleaned to look like new? Keep up the good work.
