S-18 started out looking similar to this coin:
It appears the coin was then circular punched with another mark; perhaps a reevaluation to a higher denomination.
Don is SoCal.

Scott, if you have more coins to be ID-ed, I'd like to see them.

Don,
I truly appreciate your help.
Most of your attributions have been spot on.
The few that were close led me to explore new websites of Early Spanish coins,
subsequently leading to proper identification.

I have a handful more to Identify and would like to be able to identify them through my own research,
thus reducing the number left to post for assistance.

Besides Numista, what other websites are tops on your list?

Once again,
Thank You!

Best of Wishes,

Scott

Scott,
Initially, I Google my best description of the coin and go from there.
Sites that come up frequently include Numista, NGCcoin.com and coinarchives.com.
Having written an unpublished book on the coins of Spain has given me a head start.

Should you need any assistance after you 've done your research, I'd be glad to offer my 'two cents'.
Don......

Don,
I would be interested in purchasing a copy of your un-published book.
I have a copy of Whitman's publication: "Ancient Greek and Roman Coins."
ISBN 0-307-09362-X.
