very nice find for Kansas old west..:hello2:

...it is some type of exposed hammer rifle, later than most civil war percussion cap rifles. it almost looks like in photo one that it has a carbine cavalry ring mount, but if that was a ring mount it should be on the other side of the rifle. (ring mounts for cavalry carbines would be on the left side as you are holding the rifle to fire it)

yours, the what appears to be a box type protrusion is on the right side in pix one.

The serial number is on the bottom before the trigger as you hold it

I agree with jewelerguy, looks like an 1890 Winchester .22. The gun is a take down model so it can be broken down in half and packed easily. The knob on the left side of the receiver is the take down screw. I have one in my gun case and it shoots flawlessly. I love the mechanics of antique guns. Great find!

Any info on how I would restore it? Alot of rust but doesnt seem to be that bad. Worth?
