Hi all. Im curious if anyone knows how to authenticate a button. It is bigger than a nickel and has a intact shank.
It has a 3 legged eagle on the front of it with the words ES DEVS SPES NOSTRA. If found out a little about it and it seems there were reproductions made. Im wondering if there is anyway to tell the two apart. It was found 5-6 inches in a town park oabout 160 acres in size and was only about 30 feet from waters edge. Im in the upper penninsula of michigan about 65 miles from Fort Mackinac and wonder if it could have come from the time of the french and indian war or perhaps revolutionary war. The button is in fantastic shape and my brother was pumped when he dug it. It is rather thick maybe a little thicker than 2 quarters on top of each other. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks alot.
