Hit a couple places with a buddy Aaron today. First an old 1860's school I had been to before. Dug the 1897 Indian Head and a 1909 VDB wheat. No S on that coin, bummer! We then headed to an old site where a old house once stood. Aaron had previously dug a 17?? Machin Mills variety King George. I dug this 1781 Hibernia Half Pence. I did not put it in peroxide as of yet and do not think I will. I really need a better camera to show this coin but here is what I have at the moment. I can see the 81 but not the 17. Also got crotal bell pieces, pocket watch pieces etc. In one hole at the 1st site I pulled this square piece of glass out with my find. I know I've seen this before I'm thinking..... Yep, it's a lens from a Saturn Scope. Those devices that were used to view post cards and such. All and all a fun day.

Nice going on the Hibernia!! I think it may be a wise decision not putting that one in the old peroxide spa. Be glad you were able to get a date off that coin! Any old copper find is a good find, and dated coins are a plus!

Congrats!

Congrats on the Irish Halffpenny. I dont think I would put it in the peroxide either. Looks like it might fall apart.

Not sure why you guys think peroxide would harm it. If the water didn't strip a good patina, the peroxide isn't going to hurt it. Being so pitted I question if it could get much better... but peroxide ain't going to hurt that one.

Bonus you can see the date. I love finding those things, they just don't love finding me anymore.

That's a FANTASTIC ID on the glass "wedge." I woudn't have had a clue on that one--but that ID will go in the memory banks now. :)

I really like the brass insert from the daguerrotype picture frame. Those were Expensive items in the mid-19th c. at around $5 each.

Great copper too.
