High School Class Ring, A First For Me!

I fled across state lines today and hit a few parks down in Arkansas. I was swinging the coil outside the barrier of a tot lot and got a solid quarter signal (86) on the ATPro. To my surprise the plug contained a sterling silver high school class ring, and not a quarter. My first in 35 years of digging!

The ring is worn and beat up, but legible. Athens (Alabama) High School Class of 1980 with the owner's initials, "VDP" or "VDR" engraved inside. Marked sterling with a hallmark of "LGB." Embossed with Athens High School Golden Eagles on the sides.

I fired off an email to the registrar of Athens High School in an attempt to identify the owner so that I may reunite the ring with him/her. Keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks Tnet family, Just a note to park/school hunters, I have found many jewelry items "just outside" of the tot lot berm/barrier/retaining wall. That is where the parents stand and park strollers, set bags down, etc...while their rugrats play in the tot lot. More activity in this area means more lost items. Will keep you posted on the return, if that is possible. Sub

Good tip and very nice old sterling class ring!! Much better shape then the one I found...I found my first this past week but has no name and the school is about 1000 miles away from the location I found it... Good Luck on finding and the return...
