Some general tips on the XLT:
For greatest depth, use the "ALL METAL MODE" - ib BASIC ADJUSTMENTS, turn AUDIO DISC to OFF. This will get the maximum depth but you will be hearing all signals so you must pay attention to the SIGNAGRAPH (VISUAL DISC = ON and enter the desired DISCRIMINATION settings (ACCEPT and REJECT).
A lot has to do with what you are hunting for; ie: small targets and/or in a Hi-Junk area, use a small coil (3", 5", or 6"x3"). A larger Coil will get more depth BUT may loose SMALL targets and be noisy in high metalization. READ the MANUAL over & over and practice. Probably best to set up your own TEST patch; bury various coins, use lead in lieu of gold, pull tabs, bottle caps, jewelry, etc. Bury from 3" to 6" and practice on these to get used to what the different Targets sound like.
Good luck.
