The library is always a must.
The "Historic Archives" are your best bet.

Research department at your local lib.
While there, ask for the regional (city, county, etc.) historian's information and contact that person.

Try googling your city followed by "sanborn fire insurance map", nice old images there including buildings, coops, alleys and such.

sometimes you must buy

& other times someone has put copies online.

Also check Ebay the same way just type in your county name, city name, state name,
along with the words Map, atlas, Historic & see if anything pops up

There's a site called OSHER maps that has some beautifully detailed old maps. I have no idea if they will have any of your area but it's worth a look. Put in you state then choose the date range. Of course the library is a great place. I dug in to the local history section and found a 1742 map of my town. They often will have map archives as well. Sometimes they will photocopy the smaller maps for you but the big ones you can take a picture of. Perry-Castaneda, David Rumsey, Old Maps online. There are several sites to look at. Use them all. Historic Map Works is a great site. Find the map you want then click on Buy. Then it will bring up another image. Then click on enlarge. Then you're able to zoom in and see a larger image. Good luck
