How do you remove rust stains from silver?

I found a really nice Seated Liberty Dime the other day and the black spots on it I thought were tar, so I tried a bit of finger nail polish remover on a Q-Tip but it didn't phase them at all.

I'm now convinced that these are rust stainds as I had forgotten that there was a nail in the same hole as the dime.

Any suggestions on how to clean this without ruining it?

I'm including a photo of the coin so that you can see what I'm up against.
