every member here will know why and how they started this thing of ours. Perhaps they might share I've a feeling it could get either fascinating or as dull as dish water.

For me it was that classic movie Indiana Jones and the lost ark it fired my imagination so thanks for that Mr Spielberg.

Had I known it was more like man with a detector and a thousand pull tabs things may have started differently. That said I wouldn't have it any other way its a dream that we live for and if we make it or not.

For me it makes no difference for me its the things I may find rather than those I do that keeps me going on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Best wishes MM

It was over 30 yrs ago I meet the older fellow and he was detecting a school yard finding old coins and I thought to myself that would be neat to do. So I bought my 1st detector a bounty hunter 840 and man did I find coins. Then I bought the whites PI water detector and started finding cons and rings. Love the hobby and still do it as much as I can. Now I don't find as much as I used to 30 yrs ago but I still get my share.

We like going to the beach, and I started detecting there about 6 years ago, and this year I expanded to land. I have always been interested in history as well.

Dad bought a radio shack machine for my twin brother and i to use on our farm. We had heard stories of it being a union campsite so we gave it a go. The first day i went out after school barefooted and walking through the field swinging that jalopee trying to get a signal. First signal was a .69 caliber mini ball about 2 inches down. I was so excited i ran across 37 acres like Michael Johnson running the track. I ran into a chicken house barefooted just to show my dad. Then went on to find more and more. Bought a whites classic id and in those 6 years there i myself found over 1,500 different types of civil war bullets, cannonball frags, buttons, buckles, and even some coins. I have been a detecting fool for the last 15 years now. Will be doing this till the day i die i hope.
