Hunting with Max, Stu and Joe in OV today, 9 May 2013 New Excal Mods!

Met up with Max, Stu from NC and Joe from MD and headed to Ocean View for some low tide hunting. Was anxious to get out and test out my new excal modification the the pinpoint/disc toggle switch and new headphones, all custom built by Joe (OBN, oldbeachnut) who did a FANTASTIC job!

Everything worked GREAT! First time playing around and hunting in pinpoint mode, then using the toggle to switch to discriminate to see it it was worth digging. First target was actually a quarter (clad) that sounded off in pinpoint but not in discriminate! Was only two scoops down in the water and I know I have found them deeper before in just discriminate. Makes me wonder what else I may have missed in the past! Was hitting so ok targets when Max said to move down by him, he had a nice little hole he found and ended up working the same area for most of the 4 hours we were out there. By the end of the hunt, all 4 of us were in the same hole pulling all kinds of crap outta there.

In the end Max had the best with a nice old 10k class ring! I did find that oval shapped copper/brass item. All of the things with it were inside of it. It was very encrusted but chipped right off easily. Not sure if it is some kind of old battery or filter from something. Good hunt, Joe and Stu will leave happy after everything we all dug today! Thanks for looking!

Edit: Forgot to add, I tried out one of the attachable rare-earth magnets that Max did a review on to my 720i stealth scoop and man did it pick up some iron pieces! Stu was working with 2 much larger magnets in the back of his sccop and his looked pretty "furry" as well! May move it further back in the scoop as I did notice that when I was looking inside of it after digging something, that sometimes it missed the magnet and ended up in the rear of the scoop. Will make the change and see if it helps prevent losing something small out the back end and traps it.
