Last week I found a Soviet 50 Kopeks coin and now yesterday I find this. I was detecting a modern park near St. Louis when I dug this up, it was about 3" down. It had a small ring on top for a chain to go through but I took it off so I could get a good scan of it. Any Ideas of why I would find this in a park in St Louis?

SD, thats absolutely true. However, with the coloring and setting (with the laurel around it and the bird, likely a condor) I believe this was meant to represent the Nazi party... I don't believe it was military and the non-military pins weren't made to the same high standards, so I'm guessing its not WWII era... else the paint wouldn't have survived.

The swastika appeared on many items prior to Germany's use of it during the WWII era.

I once saw an old (ca. 1910) floor lamp with a large swastika on it's base.

MB, very true... even our own U.S. 45th Infantry (organized reserves) used the emblem from 1923 to early 1939. This item, however, is certainly designed in the Nationalist-Socialist (Nazi) pattern... but as BMike pointed out, it is not correct for the period it suggests... its more modern.

If it is modern, could it be from a medal worn by a KKK member? They are known to have rallies in parks sometimes. Just a thought. Glad you found it and not me...
