Actually I did some cleaning today... I got a hold of a proper rock tumbler and cleaned all my clad... well dirt hides alot apparently!

In my clad coins I found wheats and a SILVER 1944 quarter...

Also experiments in rock tumbler cleaning I found out zinc pennies come back to life!!! Really! check out the pics...

P.S. I apologize if someone else has done this before me... I didn't see it.

This is what your zinc pennies will look like after cleaning... These still need a bit more cleaning....

DON'T Throw away your ZINC Pennies they are recoverable!

I throw all my accumulated clad in the tumbler with an SOS pad and let 'er rip for 24 hours. Very effective. But, as you point out, occasionally a wheatie and, once a Merc, shows up after the tumbling. The SOS pad is hard on'em. HH

Good job . Did you add anything to aid the cleaning?

I tried different thing for different amounts of time... I used some kinda soap in all of them... I tried just soap but it still left them blackened but cleaner... I used some rock tumbling grit and it sand blasted them... but I letthat batch run too long...

I tried fish rocks and soap which seems to work best, for a duration of 2 hours or so..

someone suggested walnut shells...

The coins always hide from me also. When ever I clean my coins I check each one. Thelast time I cleaned them I found 2 HI's and 3 wheats. The dirt hides all. So I only clean my with soap and fish gravel and let tumble for 1 1/2 hours....Matt

Hey Chukers,
I've also found fish tank rocks to be about the best. A few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid, and do all the coins by separate denomination. They do discolor
each other, but that really doesn't matter... the coinstar has no qualms about color. :icon_thumleft:

Ok I have done my final cleanings... I finished cleaning all my zinc pennies... I did them last... I rolled $5 in zinc pennies so it was worth cleaning them... I also found 59 copper pennies in the zinc... its worth keeping and cleaning your zince pennies IMO

yes I do separate my zinc and copper...

100% copper pennies are not being made anymore... I am saving all I get.
