I FINALLY broke into the 1700's !!!!!!!!! 1773 Virginia Half Penny!

I was hunting an old farm today and this was the FIRST target I dug, I have absolutely NO idea what it is, but it has a clear date of 1773....man I am pumped up!!! I scratched it, sadly because it had roots all over, but right now I am so happy I don't even care. Before this my oldest coin was a undated capped bust dime. I still cannot believe I dug a colonial coin in OHIO!!!!! WooHoOOOOO

I took a bunch of pictures trying to get the best shot and angle....

Congrats on the banner! My first 1700s was a 1792 30 SOL French coin. I was on cloud 9.5

That's definitely a find in Ohio! Congratulations on the Banner and like my diggin' buddy Jeff said, I've dug 6, but they don't always come out looking great, its a real turkey shoot sometimes depending on where and what type of soil you're in around here. That one is in good condition and just a great find from up North! They were minted at the Tower Mint in London, very special coin in my opinion.

WTG Terry! Awesome to see a fellow Ohioan make the banner! Even better to know that there is hope for the 1700's here in the Buckeye State! I did pull a smooth kgII copper year before last... just looks like a smooth disk to me... but sent it off and a guy did electrolosis on it... and gave me his opinion as to what it was.... but yours is awesome! Congrats~!

Wow what an amazing story behind those coins. Pretty cool to think that this coin was minted in london and sailed over to the u.s., then sat in storage for a year before even being dispersed to human hands. This kind of find is what we all live for. Way to go on saving a piece of history!

Great dig, just shows you can find a colonial coin anywhere. I live in Michigan I'm hoping to find something even close to that old.

my oldest coin was found at an Ohio farm, too, although not in nearly as nice a shape. it is a large cent from (as far as we can discern) 1829. Way to Go!!!
