Been a slow copper year for me so far :dontknow:
checked out site where an old school was,
nearby, a paupers cemetary. one dated stone, 1817.
found a decent 1802 Cent :hello2:
stove parts from 1880, & open well.
then a lot of costume earrings spread around an old tree, 2 sets of sterling ;D
really happy to find a Draped with some detail
HH all, thanks for looking

Re: I Found a Coin

That is in great shape! Nice recovery! :headbang: Appears to be Sheldon 231, "Stemless Wreath". S-241 has double fraction bar and part of an "s" in last "s", so I think S-231.

Re: I Found a Coin

Beautiful fully detailed draped bust :o I like the cast iron toy half too ! I wonder where the other half is ?? Whats up with all the earings around the tree ?? Good digs ! M.R.

Re: I Found a Coin

Congrats on the 1802 Cent Herbie! :hello2:

Those earrings are really beautiful to look at!
I be some little girl "borrowed" her Mom's earrings to play with
them and then forgot what tree she left them under! :laughing7:

Love the on-site pics too!

I'll email you later tonight with my number, I'm off tomorrow and I'll have my phone with me.

Re: I Found a Coin

Thanks All
This is my best Draped yet!
Hogge, thanks for that ID :notworthy:
I have another 1802 with stems, I noticed this one didn't..
I got rid of my Breen, so I can't tell varieties ::)
Seems a lot of the earlies are poorly struck, wornout dies etc.
Don't know how that car/carriage lost it's front end,
I think that's a rumble seat :laughing7:
those earrings had me wondering too, the first one found was the closeup pic,
and it was DEEP, I think they were buried intentionally, though they were spread all around the tree.
Another weird thing, they all have had their pins or whatever the part that goes through the ear is called replaced with real gold ones :dontknow:
HH All

Nice coin and everything else Herbie. You dug enough jewelry to open a store. No spoon this time? Is that the rear of an old toy car? HH, Quindy.

All those earrings around a tree is a sure indication that you've found a make-out spot...any prophylactics laying around? :tongue3:

I'd like to know what treasures are lying at the bottom of this well!? :icon_scratch:

The title "I Found an Old Coin" brought to me visions of tot-lot scooped modern day copper-plated crap,
not an 1802 Large.
That is not a "I Found an Old Coin", coin.
Your title needs a tad more pizzazz, just a little more oomph,
a possible seductive hint of treasures waiting to be shown to us
for our vicarious viewing pleasure.
Thought I'd just throw that out to ya.
Carl

Nice copper!

for the old well try a strong magnet on a good rope --never know if a gun or sword or sumpin interesting made of iron might be down there.

Steelheadwill, I think i have a theory about the earrings-you can assume that they belonged to
one owner - rather than random losses at a makeout spot , by virtue of the fact that the earring wires
were replaced with gold- many women have a minor allergic reaction to silver or base metal earring
findings . For this many earring PAIRS, not singles- to all have gold wires ,is evidence of the jewelry
being deliberately placed/stashed- as is the fact that they were recovered from some depth- even
though they are not very old -1970's- 80's. Argentium
