To find something good. I have walked miles of corn stubble and used makeshift bridges to cross streams

Alas, to no avail. Finding early, productive sites in Southwestern Pennsylvania can be a challenge.

So I have been reverting to sites I have hit many times, and even the fringes of unharvested fields I have hit many times.

Here are recent finds from the fringes of an uncut bean field that I have hit many times.

I don't normally get excited about four hole buttons, but I thought this one was pretty cool.

And here are Sunday's finds from a site I have hit many times that has produced a number of early buttons and a couple Draped Bust large cents as well as a lot of IHPs and later items

A nice example of a drawer pull assembly with the post and escutcheon. Usually you find the escutcheon or the post, but not the two together.

Coins were scarce this time but at least I got one IHP :laughing7:

I will keep trying until the ground is frozen solid :icon_thumleft:

Agreed, I've never had the full set of that type of drawer pull.

Thanks Cru. What time frame would you put on this type drawer pull. I'm thinking mid 19th century.

very cool finds in spite of not being as productive as you had hoped for. Heck finding an IH penny is a great thing to me

Nice bunch of finds, luv the IHP! I have found that if there is more cover(long grass or a lot of leaves) the ground doesn`t freeze as fast there, good luck.

Yep, grass and leaves will insulate the ground from freezing and in the woods where the ground is mulch for the first several inches, it doesn't freeze easily. But forget it if you are hunting in a cultivated field with bare dirt :laughing7:

I know the feeling. I hiked 3 miles with MetalHeadz on Sunday through Seldom. First time there, rained all day Saturday so Sunday with the leaf cover was slick. I broke my arm cuff on a fall...

Nice finds, an IHP or Merc usually is enough to make my day.

I second HighV’s group hunt idea. I’ve got a spot in the big park north of the city that would be perfect to get the posse back together before it gets too cold.

Congrats!

Best of luck. I've been barely flogging any great targets out of the ground but I seem to get one good one a day. I'll post a season wrap up when it frezzes hard. Keep up the good effort and the luck will come. Its tough finding new spots.
