found this at the beach, at what was a popular spot in the 1920 and 30s looks gold to me, i dont know if old beach gold will tarnish tho? i know siover turns black.
the clean looking spot was because it was bent right there, i bent it back and the tarnish flaked off
any ideas if gold looks like this when it comes fron a old beach? and of corse theres no stamp, maby it will show up after i clean it.
thanks Dank.

I don't think gold turns to a greenish color. :icon_scratch:

That is definitely not gold...It would have more of a "texture" that is either base metal or brass.

That's a pretty piece, neat find

I wouldn't clean the piece as I think the crusted copper patina is pretty and gives the piece character.

Noticed the patina is on top of the gold/gilding. Maybe by weighing the piece you can determine gold content?

My quess is Tombac. An alloy of copper and zinc. It was used widely for jewelry years ago, and has the appearance of gold.

You will find gold just keep digging pulltab signals. When you do find it you will know because it will look like the day it was lost. Look at the pocket watch in my avatar...that watch was buried for around 100 years and the only thing I did was washed it off with warm water to get the loose dirt off.

(By the way after writting about the watch above I had a 'Pulp Fiction' flash back...Christopher Walken was great in that watch scene.)

Good luck
