Back to the field with the 1758 Würtemberg silver and lots of buttons I got an iffy signal and dug what I first thought was a very deep button.

Back home washing things off I noticed a silverish rim and took the dirt-laden object along to a hunt with a friend who has more experience and gave me some advice on cleaning.

After carefully soaking and cleaning off dirt with a toothpick more and more silver came out underneath the dirt crust.

From what I could read I can distinguish "PIVS ANT ONINVS" and "PAX AVG TRYX X ?????"

Weight between 3 and 4 grams.

I believe it might be a roman silver denarius from Antoninus around AD 138 , I would appreciate if anyone knows more about this coin.
Too bad its probably a late roman denarius with only 80% or so silver content but well, i can´t complain this year the romans are treating me better...

Besides, if it has been in the ground for almost 1800 years it probably has the right to be a bit crusty...

I tried to take pictures in different angles so that all features would be visible:

Any ID appreciated if anyone know more about this coin or the ID is wrong...

Thanks Lu for the expert opinion on the coin and happy hunting to everyone...

Definitely a Roman coin, but I have no idea as to the Emperor. Maybe Crusader will chime in on this one.

We need macro pictures to read the Ledgends. But first thought is it could be;

Denarius of Marcus Aurelius A.D. 161-180

Looks like (Please check?);

Obv; DIVVS M ANTONINVS PIVS
Rev; PAX AVG TRP XX COS III

Issue is, we can find that combo at the moment on the net or in our books!

My best guess at the moment is that this denarius maybe either an immitation or a Mule. The obverse Legend normally goes with the reverse of the one below & not the Pax that you have!
ROMA: Divus Marcus Aurelius AR Denarius

Yes, It is quite strange, I have been looking for hours and cant find a matching antoninus head with the Pax figure on the back. I am quite sure the front is DIVVS M ANTONINVS PIVS
With the ANT ONINVS separated, quality of the silver also makes me doubt a bit maybe its really a mule or an immitation of that time

Spot on, thats the inscription I am seeing on the reverse!
How should I proceed to make it more legible without ruining the coin?
Normally soak in lemon juice for 5 minutes & rinse well.
HOWEVER, this is not good if the silver is debased like yours, so I would leave it as is.
