Hi. I got out yesterday before the storm hitting CT tonight. I went to a farmer's field and found another IHC! So happy because I ruined my first one in hydrogen peroxide, and half an Ox shoe and bridle buckle. Is there a way to clean up what I found?
You can soak the ox shoe and bridle buckle in apple cider vinegar. Soak, remove rust, soak, remove rust, repeat until satisfied. Then coat with petroleum-based product to neutralize the acidic effects of the vinegar.
You can also use electrolysis if you are set up for that.
Congrats on the IHP.
ONE THING I HAVE YET TO FIND IN MY AREA , MOSTLY HORSE SHOES.. YOU WOULD THINK THAT THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN USED TO PULL CERTAIN LOADS BUT NO LUCK YET NICE FINDS.
Nice finds. I prefer the apple cider vinegar soak suggeated by against the wind. I've tried electrolysis, wasn't as pleased with the results but then again I probably wasn't doing it correctly LOL. CT sure seems to have a lot of ox shoes, I guess they were the draft animals of choice long ago.
