A week ago or so there was a discussion about what makes the banner. Gypsy mentioned that her rusty iron never makes the banner and I agreed with her. For you new to this forum she has been Queen of Rust for a couple years now. Anyways, i am anxiously waiting to see which of this rusty iron will make thew banner. I dug this along side a logging RR from the late 1890's. Crappy photos from a cheap camera.

A poker for a pot belly stove

A large staple

A mattock with a narrow blade. Any others that I have found have a more broad blade

A horse shoe made into some kind of scoop or spoon

A hame

Someone help me on this one. I have seen these in photos but I can't put a ID on it now.

That last object is curious... what's it called? A friend and I found one last week very similar to it. Will post a pic if time allows.

That scoop or spoon looks like a miniature bark spud.

I thought the same thing. Could the mattock like object be an ice axe? (not the mountaineering variety)

Mattock?
In Texas we call those grubbing hoes,
at least that`s what my bohemian (TexCzechs) relatives call them.

The last item looks to be from a 3-point hitch set up on a tractor.

Ya know Rusted_Iron, you may be right. I checked the other bark spuds I have found and it is the same width and almost the right angle. The only thing it is lacking is the hook that was used to slice the bark.
