Igneous Rock ID?

Hello, new to the forum, happy to be here. Wanted to see if anyone could help me ID these red/brown/black rocks I've been finding off to the side of a path in Greene County, New York. Very fine grain, scratches glass. Varies from red black to a blue black. Almost like an obsidian, but not as glassy?

I believe you have found some chert. Not igneous.
