I would suggest checking the records of the Federal Court. Since the suit was filed there, that's where I would start.

Another possibility would be the local newspaper before and after the date of the NYT article. One would think an event such as this would get some local coverage.

I do find it amazing that back then the NYT covered so many events across the US and around the world!
