Found an Indian Head which is cool in itself but what is interesting is that it rang up 72 on the detector which I thought was odd at the the time because they usually ring much higher than that. I come to find out that that particular date, 1861, was at the beginning of the Civil War and they made these with a different alloy which ended up making sense for it coming up 72.

The pipe Is cool as well. The "eye" part freaks me out a bit. If anyone has any background on that symbol I love to hear it!

Are you sure that was part of a pipe? It kinda looks like the bottom part of a traditional puukko sheath. Maybe even a bottom part of a scabbard. 4got to add, Beautiful Indian head penny. Could that possibly be part of a powder horn.

I should have originally put something in for scale. It looks like it's a part of a pipe although I have never come across a pukka sheath or powder horn. Thanks for your input!

That's a real nice early IHP. I have been faked out any number of times with those lower VDI's on the early ones. Congrats!
I'm starting to believe what I once thought was an undetected spot may have had someone before me. The coins ive dug are this and two V Nickels which both fall in that "pass" category. 72 comes up many times as aluminum and the nickels, mid 50s, as shotgun shells. But then again I'll find a fork or spoon a few inches deep that comes in in the 90's. So who knows.
