It's some sort of media for a tumbler....There's a post somewhere in a deep dusty corner of TNet about them.

Scroll down to response 5 from TheCannonballGuy in 2016, where he gives an explanation on these being media (Tumbler, mill).

I'm not saying it is or isn't a caltrop, but if you look at google images there are many for sale described as such offered for sale.

as far as practicality of the item being a caltrop , it doesn't seem any more dangerous than stepping on a stone. it would seem the very sharp pointy ones would do much more damage.

Glad I could be of help. I fell for the Caltrop identity back then, as that was what every site I found called them. TCBG's research/knowledge put that rumor to bed.

Took a few minutes to find the original post, but it did bring it back to the top for future needs.
