The sad truth my friend is that there are some dark, disappointing days.
More of them than I care to admit, and this was one of them.

Laugh at my misfortune if you will.
But I am resolved to turn over a new leaf in 2009.
I will post EVERYTHING that I find.
The disgusting, the vile, the corroded and unrecognizable.
It will be shocking for some to have to journey with me along the dark underbelly of this hobby.
But there will be better days, better finds ahead.

And the star of our show, a commemorative coin from 1917.

Well, I guess it wasnt a total bust but it was awfully close.
The commemorative coin was the rabbit in the hat.

Granted, we will occasionally dig up some shiny bauble made of gold or a remarkably clean silver coin.. you can't expect everything to be pristine when it's been in the ground for who knows how long. <grin>
I'll take the kind of finds you posted here ANYDAY! As I'm sure most here who read your post would as well. I think you are a bit of a comedian as well as a fellow metal detectorist.. but then, I am too, so I'm always happy to welcome the company. <smile>
