It was a cool, dreary, drizzly day, perfect for metal detecting. I went to a hollow about 18 miles from my home. I was out for 2 1/2 hr. but found the chains in the first half hour. The rest of the day was junk. The chain on the left is more modern. It has a forged hook and hex head bolts. The short chain on the right is 100+ years old. The kind I like to find. Thats 40 lbs of chain there that I hauled out.

Congratulations that is a great find. Surprised that someone left that chain there long ago.

That's what makes this so awesome to me. I have not really found much so far, but I know that there are many great items that peps have left or lost awaiting us.

I dug up one of those too from the logging road. Had both hooks attached too and about 6' long. Needless to say, I wanted to wash the dirt off & add to the rest of my blacksmith made iron "junque". Some individual, who is supposed to be my better half took it upon himself "I can't use this" and pitched it. Well, after a good lashing at him, and all the trouble I went to dig this out of the ground...well, I show things to him & then add to my iron junque collection (that is in a hiding place). I never had a chance to take a pic of it, but have not found another compete chain since.

Neat finds for you!!

;) RR
