Had a quick hour to spend at the farm site I;ve been hunting and found 3 more Indian head pennies dates 1863, 1881 and 1893,( 34 IH's to date) a couple copper spikes, silver plate dinner fork and this item below which is 1 1/2 inches round, outer edge appears to be brass and center is either vinyl or plastic? Any ideas on what it is, the back is pretty well shot so hard to tell what was there. This area is blowing me away...it keeps producing and producing and still have alot of ground to cover yet.

The age made me question it as being plastic as well, but it is thin and flexible like a plastic or vinyl, so don;t think it is ivory or cameo for I have never seen either to be that thin or flexible, so am not sure what the heck it is.

Judging from the age I doubt its vinyl or plastic..........Im with clump. Could be ivory. Very beautiful find MD, you got a real hot spot there! ;D
I'd have to put a Ditto on this one... I don't think being that old it would be vinyl or plastic either...
Great looking piece, Congrats!!!
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

it sure looks like the front of a cameo, but the pliable thing has got me stumped. cool find whatever it turns out to be.

Posted it on the What is it page and junkdigger came back with saying it may be celluloid, was first manufactured in 1856 and used as an ivory imitation....sounds logical to me and sounds and looks like that is what it could be. So that is half the question answered, think I now know what it is made of, just don;t know what it is or was used for.

MD,

was going to say it is a button with a tin back
rusted out, but 1 1/2 inches is large for a button.

Holding with the tin back rusted out, but what it
is??? Large button for a winter coat??? Button
for holding some type of flap on an item??

34 IH, thats nice, an accomplishment.

have a good un....................
