Lately it seems like people are making metal detecting a big contest, who can get the most silver or who can get this or that. this is only my second year of metal detecting, and i love it. thanks to a friend i work with i probably would of never got the chance to do this awesome hobby. The point that I'm trying to get at is that just because new people come into the sport or hobby, whatever u want to call it doesn't mean that there going to wreck the hobby for all of us. as experienced detectors,(not me by any means) maybe we should though them a few pointers once in a while like how to properly fill a hole or to hang on to the trash that they find. i recently got my second detector last fall and i gave my first one to my dad for Christmas , hes been wanting one for the longest time. now hes like a kid in a candy store. sure we all have our little spots we love to go and keep secret and such, that's perfectly fine. but just because u have a lot of time and money invested into your machines doesn't give u the right to cut somebody else down, maybe give them advice and metal detecting we be better for all of us.

Dustin, I should take you to the new spot that I found...every coin so far has been 1935 or older. It's at Pioneer Trail just not in an obvious spot.

You are missing the point, the issue is not with newbies, if I didn't like newbies and want to help them I wouldn't be a dealer. The issue is with newbies due to the new TV shows etc. who do not have any interest at all in the hobby, their only interest is making money. These "newbies" will not take the time to, nor care about learning proper techniques or asking permission, they will just go. The damage they have already done and will continue to do affects the entire hobby and those who enjoy it, actual newbie hobbyists included will now face a harder struggle to find places where they are allowed to go and learn. The statements being made are not universal yet are taken as such by many newbies on here. If you are here you are most likely in it for the right reason in the first place and care enough to learn, you guys need to stop placing yourselves in the subject matter of the complaints. There will be many who have always thought about getting into the hobby and see the show, and it will light the spark they needed to go, but they are the ones that have a genuine interest and will care enough to learn right. This hobby has been under attack for a long time now, the new bad attention is only providing more ammo to the busy bodies and archies that are trying their darndest to eliminate our hobby.

I don't think it's good newbies or bad newbies that should be the point. The point is these shows (pawn stars, storage wars, meteorite men, or any detecting shows) are driven by RATINGS. Bottom line... MONEY. Higher ratings means more advertizers which means more MONEY. The bad newbies will soon put their new detectors in the closet or garage... or even the storage locker. I'm sure mama will not allow it above the fireplace. TTC

I agree with u guys 100%. everyone has different opinions on everything. im still getting the feeling tho from some detectors that if you dont own a 1500 machine or whatever that u shouldn't waste your time. my machine cant tell me the year of the coin that's a foot underground lol. just seems like this hobby is becoming to fricken political. u have your guys that have the expensive equipment with there groups of hunting buddies vs the guy that hunts alone with an average machine, well then that one day comes when that one guy with the 250 dollar detector hunts a spot were all of the guys that have the big boys also hunt, maybe finds a good silver coin and such and then the war begins. idk maybe its just me, im sure these tv shows will end sooner or later and all of these newbs will sell there machines on fee bay and such, and maybe the a guy like me can get a top of the line detector for a great price and we all can be friends and huntin buds!!!

You are right there there are a lot out there that think........... If you do not have a $1500.00 detector you should not detect....... you are not worthy to be with them....... There are a lot of big heads and ego's out there........ But not much in them heads........ The best thing to do is pay no attention to them........For you can find as much with a lower price detector as you will find with a high price detector.............. I have seen that proven more than once...........
