It's GOLD, actual GOLD! Lunch break silver again!

On Saturday I met Mike down near the University of Oregon to do some detecting. I found a small gold colored lapel pin near where I found that 1893-S Barber dime the weekend before last. I didn't think much of the pin ~ for some reason I thought I saw some of that green corrosion that gold plated copper items have when you dig 'em. All that stuff I dug on Saturday sat in my pack in my car until last night ~ I decided to clean up the stuff I dug. I wasn't too excited because I only dug 4 wheats and no silver coins. I took the lapel pin and started cleaning it up . . . . so my suprise it wasn't corroded at all, just dirty! I'm not sure what I thought I saw when I first dug it. Now it look like real GOLD to me! So I had to do some research on the item ~ it's a badge/pin for the International Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta. There's a guys name engraved on the back and the year of '43. I did a google search for the guy and found an obituary from Oct. 2007 ~ the obituary stated that he graduated from the University of Oregon in 1944. I'm sure this is the same guy! I took the badge/pin to the local coin shop today while I was on my lunch break ~ sure enough it's GOLD ~ 2.54 grams of 10K GOLD!! SCORE!!! I got info on the guy's family from the obituary ~ hopefully I can return it to one of his kids someday!

Before I went back to work I did a few minutes of detecting ~ it was pretty hot today! I found a few clad coins and a big silver ring marked 925! SCORE AGAIN!
