It's pretty worn but it's a 1916 merc.............

To bad it's not a "D" mint. Almost freaked out when I saw the date and realized I was rubbing it with my thumb :tard:. Even if had a "D" mint mark it's so worn it probably wouldn't have been worth much. It still was fun finding it.

Also go luckly and found a 194? merc, 1964 rosie, 1945 war nickel, tiny silver ring, what looks like an older bus token, and 6 wheats.

Some nice stuff there. It's always cool when you can find silver coins and get a silver ring as a bonus. And yes the 16 dime is worn, but I think you'd be surprised as to how much it might sell for even with that amount of wear (with the D, that is  ). Sounds like a good spot! HH

Nice finds, Randy!

I used to live in Reseda 3 years back and did quite a bit of detecting all around the San Fernando Valley. Lots of places to hunt, that's for sure.

My best jewelry finds used to come from all the sand boxes (now probably wood chip boxes) in the parks. Can't tell you how many gold and silver rings I've found there. Best find was a 1911 British Sovereign Gold coin w/bezel on a gold chain. It was a copy, but made of 1/4 oz. real gold. Found that in the sand box too.

I hope I get to see a lot more posts by you with lots more coin finds!

Thanks AA Battery. I hear you about the quake. Thought for sure we were going into the ocean that morning. We had just bought a new house and it held up better than most. It had about $18,000.00 worth of damages. Thank God we had bought the earthquake insurance and it had a super low deductable. Think it's about time for another one ;D.

Thanks Nate! The ring surprised me. Thought it was going to be a clad dime. I was detecting Griffith Park in Los Angeles. It's been pounded and it's getting harder to find oldies but every once in awhile it gives up some good ones.

Thanks kimsdad! The three silver dimes came out with a white powdery look but as soon as the air hits them they turn ugly real fast. It's kind of a gorgeous ulgy ;D.

Thanks Hunter in the Sky! At this park you have to really work hard to even get a wheat. I was just going slow, keeping my coil low, and got luckly.

Hey Ray, Thanks for the reply. Most of the parks and schools still have the sand boxes. I got the oldies at Griffith Park. I'm sure you've hit before.

Actually, it appears your 1916 merc isn't as bad as worn as many I've seen posted here, and elsewhere. I've seen some where you could barely read the date, and some that, if had a D mintmark, wouldn't show it. I say, nice dime, and cool finds all around.

Nice merc. My first merc was a 1917, date was easy to read, rest of it more worn that you 16'. I've read that any 1916 merc is a good find.

Good luck,
HH.

The Landier Transit Co. token is from Watts, California dated 1948 bronze and catalogues for $1.00. Nice finds, congrats..
