Was doing some metal detecting when I saw this laying in the dirt right in the middle of a roughly 1900’s farm site. Been working hard to find some points this fall, guess the trick was to do something else.

Pretty confident it’s a Jackie stemmed, early archaic, it is heat treated which is usually a younger trait, but I’ve found another Jackie that’s also heat treated. It’s been worked to a nub and got a slick little fossil inclusion.

That’s Kay County flint. Those UFO fossils are distinctive. It’s also sometimes called “Florence A” chert. View attachment 2113809
Awesome thanks for the Id on the material, the Kay county/florence-es, aren’t found exactly here but they are probably the closest widely used material. Kay county itself is 120 miles sw, although I’m sure there are closer sources. always looking to sort out trade networks so material ids are always a great bit of information
