Re: James 1 penny

That is a very nice hammered in great nick.

It is puzzelling as the inscription should read:

TUEATUR UNITA DEUS

Therefore you have a shortening of DEUS, not one I can find in the specialist books. I think it worthy of further research, I will PM you a contact. Please update us?

How come you have a nice ploughed field?? Can Shaun & I join you :o

Hi Dave..

done a bit of homework on your coin, it appears your coin is infact a half groat,

the reverse should have a full legend reading TVEARTVR VNITA DEVS the die engraver obviously ran out of space, and got as far as TVEARTVR VINTA DE and then engraved what looks like a 9 with a pellet beneath it, to represent an abbreveation mark, this does not appear that often and would make the coin more sort after :notworthy:SS

Silver Searcher, yes you are right, I was about to update when I noticed there is a crown
above the rose, making it a half groat, thank you for the additional info.
Dave.

good observation. As you say, & I thought its an abbreviation, but not one in JJ North Book (Spink), so pretty rare I would bet! Nice find!
